Synopsis of
Speech
Stephen J. Yates
The current social
and political climate in the United States gives Taiwan, and the Taiwanese
Community in the US, a unique opportunity to engage with American business and
political leaders to foster support for Taiwan. Steve will speak to the factors affecting this climate, from
Trump’s unique foreign policy to the 40th
anniversary of the Taiwan Relations Act, as well as best practices when
engaging with political leaders and the broader community.
Brief Bio of
Stephen J. Yates
Stephen J. Yates is
a Senior Advisor to FAPA. He was Deputy
National Security Adviser to former Vice President Dick Cheney from 2001 to
2005 and Chairman of the Idaho Republican Party from 2014 to 2017. Currently, Steve is the CEO of the
consulting company DC International Advisory. He is also a frequent commentator
on Fox News, The John Batchelor Show, the Dana Loesch Radio Show, and the
BBC.
Steve served as a
missionary in Taiwan from 1987 – 1989. He received his Bachelor’s degree in
Chinese Language and Literature from the University of Maryland, and a Masters
in China Studies from the Johns Hopkins University Paul H. Nitze School of
Advanced International Studies.
